Luxury Branded Bag

A custom-shaped, specially designed bag becomes safe, solid and reusable
Similar to the 1-bottle project, Château de Pommard approached us with a bag visual made by a design agency. We had to review and improve the artistic design to a production-ready stage. Verification of the improvements happened through pre-production samples.
In this case, the challenge for our team was again in preserving the shape of the bag and the specifics of the flap from a screen visual but this time in search of sustainable solutions that ensure the safe and comfortable carrying the weight of 3 bottles of wine.
In addition, the combination of safety and comfort required our Product Development service for some new details.
The project posed the task of creating new functional elements that would make it easy to pack, carry and unpack three wine bottles.
We worked on:
The safety elements
The shape and size
The artistic flap
We made and sent pre-production samples in more than 10 combinations of type and thickness of the base material and the reinforcements – we gave the client the opportunity to test and comment.
During the next steps, we improved the models even more.
Custom protection elements for extra safety
Making this beautiful look comfortable and safe for its holder was a different and challenging moment in the Design Validation process. We had the task to offer workable solutions for the carrying of 3 bottles. Through the development of specific structural elements and accessories, the problem was solved.
THE CUSHION
What we and the Château de Pommard team noticed during the first pre-production sample set discussion, was that the handle may hurt the hand when the bag holds the weight of 3 bottles of wine.
We solved the issue by adding a specially designed foldable cushion, which uses velcro for fastening.
The cushion comes from paperboard offcuts which remain after the bag’s body cutting and wouldn’t require additional resources.
We found a sustainable, clever solution to cushion the grip hole.
THE BOTTLE SEPARATOR
Meanwhile, another issue became apparent during the discussions with the design team. It was the need to avoid the contact of the glass bottles with each other.
At the client’s request, we looked for a solution to protect the bottles while they are being carried in the bag. The leading idea of our team was to make a separator that is, above all, both easy to place and to take off.
We developed a simple element that is fixed on the middle bottle and protects the side ones.
Precision in dimensions and outlines
We had the task to fit 3 bottles of wine in the bag in a way that keeps the shape and proportions of the two bases of the trapezoid.
After reviewing the artistic design and turning it into technical drawings, it became clear that a change was necessary. The size of the two bases of the trapezoid needed to be increased proportionally so as not to create tension in the gussets of the bag when it holds 3 bottles of wine.
The perfectly chosen bag size was the main tool we used to guarantee the immobility of the bottles and the uncompromised look of the luxury bag.
Exclusive design improved to perfection
Through parallel work on Design Validation and its verification through Pre-Production Samplesfor both the 1-bottle and 3-bottle bags, we guaranteed consistency in the look and appearance of those details of the flap which are common.
After a series of discussions, prototypes and tests we decided that the materials and custom production technology we would follow would be the same for both bag sizes.
We reduced the capacity of the flap to make the bag comfortable to carry.
The flap is one of the three elements that include grip hopes. This is why the flap reinforcement ensures the reliability of the handle.
We reinforced the flap for more stability through a special production technology. This made it a substantial structural element.
We added velcro for repetitive opening and closing, same as the 1-botte bag.
We calculated the die-cut handle cuts in different sizes to guarantee the perfection of the die-cut handle’s chic design.
We helped in making this signature design become a remarkable message of Château de Pommard’s brand recognition.
Using no other material than paper and board, we established the mass production
technology that keeps the elegant look, strength and reliability of the luxury wine bags, as well as full compliance with the artistic design.
